The last three major iOS release LEGO necessarily represent enough dishes. LEGO The Lord of the Rings ($ 4.99), as the release along with other great handheld game system, was cut down from the console version in many ways, offering some decent-sized hub but took an interesting RPG elements. However, while some parts missing, the level of at least stayed pretty faithful to the console titles. Then, we got the port of LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga (Free), which seems to be pretty straight port of a console game and, perhaps significantly, did not release on the 3DS and PlayStation Vita. I've mentioned this in previous reviews LEGO, but it is worth repeating for the sake of this context. the design of handheld LEGO entire line is held back by hardware weakest in the group, and are still, to this day, including the original Nintendo DS.
I think that really informs what we have received in LEGO Marvel Super Heroes: Universe In Peril ($ 4.99). Note subtitle it, because it is important. Since LEGO Batman 2 ($ 4.99) is released, the home console game LEGO has been pushed toward the open world and the appropriate licenses that idea. After all, if you will give me Superman as a playable character, I want to be able to fly wherever the hell I want. It is a good idea that perfectly suits the LEGO concept of packaging in secret and tons of playable characters with unique abilities. If you do not have time to sink to the level, you at least can take your chosen character around to hunt for newer characters or secret gold bricks. This is a great old sandbox, and I think that is something that is at the core of what LEGO is all about. Marvel fans with their eventual console late last year with the release of the console of LEGO Marvel Super Heroes. handheld fan gets something a little bit different.
The presence of the subtitle, is missing from the home version, offers little guidance as to how authentic experience you should expect. You see, something important happened between LEGO The Lord of the Rings and LEGO Marvel Super Heroes on the console. After finally breathed her last, Wii did not receive the last port, for the first time in quite a long time for a LEGO game. Might dare to drop that albatross a particular technology, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes encourage advanced design of the previous game has dared. Perhaps the best thing to happen to handheld series, in my opinion. I've never liked the previous half-game approach has been taken. In the console version, the hub serves as a palate cleanser that is important for the long stage and often repetitive. After a very long full level rather monotonous crushing and bashing, it's relaxing to relax on the hub and mess around with all the secrets and Easter eggs. Cutting element out leaving the handheld version feels like a drag incredible. They are a seriously long, boring stage, absolutely not suitable for handheld consumption and with no sandbox ridiculous things that really will fit portable play. Add to the fact that the version of iOS have their economies skewed to sell IAP, and you have a recipe for disaster. Nobody wants to grind a 20 minute long levels again and again to unlock their favorite characters. I'd rather have something that feels completely different if the developer can not manage to provide the right experience, and that the Universe In Peril represent.
If you have played any of the console versions of the game, you will find the remains here. The game took 12 of the console stage, slice them into three levels each, and leaves a lot of advantages in the cutting room floor.
The list has also seen some deep wounds. Instead of 155 characters from the console versions, many with multiple costume, you instead get 105 characters including variants of the costume. This is still a fairly large list, and it includes some variants do not look at the title of the console, such as the Scarlet Spider. That said, it has eight slots Iron Man occupies a fairly large characters while characters like Colossus, Gambit, and Iron Fist get cut off completely rather unfortunate. That's not even mentioning the missing niche admirable character, like Rocket Raccoon, Howard the Duck, and Squirrel Girl. It sort of feels like if the characters do not have a movie, they have a low chance that is included in the list of the handheld. Unfortunately, Groot, you're so close. As usual, for the first unlock code you have to meet the conditions to unlock them, which to a large extent linked to the level of interest, and then pay according to the number of buttons. As the game throughout, the characters have their abilities efficiently, but it worked out pretty well for the new design of the game.
One happy side effect of a new level setup is that it does not feel like nearly as much grind to unlock the character you want. In many previous LEGO games, you have to buy a doubler to have even a hope of opening the vast majority of people you want without having to repeat the level to the point of nausea. Since you probably will repeat a short level anyway to check off goals, you may be surprised how continuously you can afford to buy new characters. Price stud on them are also relatively low for the previous game, perhaps because the game the whole brevity and increasing importance is placed on having additional characters available. Every time you enter a level, you can choose your partner from which you unlock characters. The game was originally gave you the Hulk, which is a good partner by most accounts, or at least, an account Rick Jones, but a lot of character requires a level of interest with the right capabilities. It pains me to say that the key is not a giant green fist command universal common sense it would be, so you will need someone who can fly, someone who could melt steel, and so on. You will need Iron Man, most of the time.
Another thing I liked about this game over the previous LEGO games is that you can actually fail the stage. Usually in a LEGO game, if you run out of hearts, disassembles your character, you lose a few buttons, and you respawn more or less where you stand. It is impossible to miss, and you can even recover most of the buttons as long as you do not die by falling into the hole, so it is not much good punishment. This is great for children who are very young, but I love the game to have some sort of challenge to it
Also as usual, there is quite a selection of IAP that are offered here for people who want to speed up the process of unlocking things. I did not bother with it at this time because the process of unlocking my favorite characters did not feel like a chore for all, but this option is there for those who want it, including a completely ridiculous amplifier 10x stud. None of the content is hidden behind a paywall, although some characters that require you to complete some complex purpose.
If you are coming to LEGO Marvel Superheroes: Universe In Peril looking for a port of a console game, you will walk away more disappointed than usual. However, if you come into the game looking for something fun to play in itself, I think this is a better game than usual from LEGO. In a perfect world, I would like to see the proper port of the console version, and I am very sure the hardware is capable of, but in lieu of that, I would rather have something that works on its own terms of something that failed in trying to be something else. This is probably not what you expect, but it's not necessarily a bad thing.
